Planning a day out in Warwick

Warwick is known for many wonderful things, including being a great place for a day trip. Not only is Warwick home to two of our retirement villages – Great Alne Park and Austin Heath – but the whole county is also home to plenty of cafés, restaurants, and attractions, making it the ideal location for a fun-packed day out.

Breakfast

Start the day right with a great breakfast; you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing where to eat. If you’ want a hearty full English to fuel your day of fun, then head to The Globe where you’ll find several delicious breakfast options on their menu. Or, if you prefer a quick pastry and a cuppa (or maybe even a cake!) then why not head to Coffee#1.

Morning activities

Situated on the River Avon, the historic town of Warwick is a popular choice for many. What better way to spend your morning than exploring all the wonderful things that Warwick has to offer. You’ll find lots of fun things to do; take a stroll through the picturesque old town and visit Old Square, filled with attractive 17th- and 18th-century buildings, then wander down Jury Street to see all the local produce and gifts the market stalls have to offer.

Lunch

After a busy morning of exploring the pretty streets and wonderful shops that Warwick has to offer, why not grab some lunch. One of our favourite places to catch a midday meal is Brethren’s kitchen, which has been serving food for over 500 years. There are lots of options, from light lunches and afternoon tea to cream teas and Sunday lunches.

If you prefer to pack your own, there’s lots of beautiful green spaces and benches to take five and enjoy your lunch while taking in your lovely surroundings.

Afternoon activities

No trip to Warwick would be complete without a trip to the famous Warwick Castle. One of the UK’s most loved attractions for many years and steeped in history, this medieval castle is the perfect place to visit for anyone of any age. Explore the castle and its beautiful grounds, while enjoying all the activities and events available. See breathtaking birds of prey fly around in falconry displays or if you dare, head down into the creepy 14th-century castle dungeons.

Dine out for dinner

Whether you fancy tucking into a hearty burger, a loaded pizza or something more exotic, there are numerous options to choose from in Warwick. Sometimes after a long day of exploring, you can’t beat a traditional English pub dinner and the New Bowling Green is just the ticket, with traditional homecooked English dishes including steaks and tasty homemade pies. If this isn’t quite up to your street and you feel like something a little different, then why not head to Le Mesa, an independent restaurant that has no fixed menu but promises that owner and chef Gerald will create a series of culinary delights for you depending on the fresh produce available on the day.
