Prioritising Mental Health at Work

Combating Burnout This World Mental Health Day

World Mental Health Day is even more pertinent for us at Inspired this year as the theme of the day is championing mental health in the workplace. One of the key subjects Mental Health UK have focused on is burnout. The thing with burnout is it doesn’t happen overnight. It’s gradual and can take hold before you’re truly aware of it. It doesn’t just affect individual wellbeing; it has far-reaching consequences for organisations like us too. We spoke to some colleagues about how they nurture their mental wellbeing in the workplace;

"Working in a positive work environment, having supportive and fun colleagues makes a huge difference to our overall wellbeing. We make our working day fun at Great Alne Park, and there is always a supportive colleague on hand to have a ‘time for tea’ break."

Patrick, Assistant Manager at Ledian Gardens“I find taking some time out to walk around the beautiful grounds is peaceful. I feel totally supported by other staff and often borrow books from the library which I enjoy reading at home after my shift as a mindful activity.”

“I love the buzz that fitness gives me, it’s a joy to come to work and teach others to love it as much as we do. Physical activity can do wonders for your mental wellbeing.”

"I stay positive at work as I can interact with all my friendly colleagues as I go about my duties.”

As an employer, the wellbeing of our colleagues and residents is at the heart of everything we do. There's some fantastic resources available this year which you can access here. You will find tips to recognise the signs of poor mental health and provide mutual support so that we can support colleagues and nurture a culture where mental wellbeing is a priority for all.
