Millbrook Village sponsors inaugural Exeter Literary Festival
Millbrook Village sponsored the inaugural Exeter Literary Festival which took place over three days between 15 -18 November 2018.
The festival was held across a range of venues in Exeter and featured most genres of literature, well-known literary celebrities and budding wordsmiths. The festival was created to celebrate the city of Exeter, its heritage and vibrant and diverse population, in a format designed to be accessible and enjoyable for all.
The festival had the pleasure of welcoming several authors and guest speakers to share their ideas, creativity and knowledge, and to showcase their work. Authors and guest speakers included Ann Barwood, Maura Beckett, Gundel Bonfield, Sue Bristow, Rob Casey, Megan Cavell, Helen Chaloner, John Wedgwood Clare and many more. The festival also offered Exeter residents the chance to enter the Exeter Literary Festival Over 60s Writing Competition, which was won by Linda Palmer who won £100 and a £50 meal voucher for two with wine from Bills restaurant in Exeter for her story on “Takeaway Tales”.
Millbrook Village sponsored the launch event of the festival, held at Waterstones Roman Gate on Thursday 15 November, which had author and former BBC News TV presenter Teresa Driscoll as the guest speaker and who presented the literary competition prizes. Through sponsorship Millbrook Village also covered the cost of the festival’s printing of its various publicity materials.
The events were very well attended and some were sold out even before the festival began. Maggie Bonfield, coordinator of the ExeLitFest Steering group, said: “It was a success, a triumph, inspiring, tempting the public’s literary appetite, a sense that real changes of hearts and minds were made”.
